Using BGCut
Is BGCut free to use?
The core background-removal and refinement workflow is currently free and does not require an account. The service is intended to be supported by advertising on informational pages; availability and limits may change if operating costs or abuse require adjustments.
Which image formats are supported?
BGCut accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG, WebP, HEIC, and HEIF. HEIC and HEIF are useful for photos from recent iPhone and iPad devices. The maximum upload size is 20MB per image.
Can I process several images at once?
Yes. A batch may contain up to ten images. BGCut queues them and processes them sequentially, and you can switch between completed items in the thumbnail strip.
What is the difference between RMBG and BiRefNet?
They are different foreground-segmentation models. RMBG is the recommended default for general use, while BiRefNet can be tried when a particular edge or subject is not handled well. The best result depends on the image rather than the model name alone.
Why does hair sometimes have a halo?
Soft edge pixels can contain color from the original background. Check the cutout on white and gray previews, then use smart or manual refinement where the fringe is visible. A completely hard edge is not always desirable for natural hair.
What do Smart Erase and Smart Restore do?
Smart Erase removes a connected object or background region near a click or stroke. Smart Restore brings back subject content that the first model removed. The stroke constrains the area the segmentation operation considers.
When should I use the manual brushes?
Use them for isolated pixels, narrow halos, small missing details, or edges that a segmentation model cannot interpret reliably. Brush hardness should follow the material: firmer for product edges and softer for hair, fur, or fabric.
Does a white preview change my downloaded file?
No. White, soft gray, and checkerboard modes are inspection backgrounds. The downloaded PNG remains transparent unless you deliberately enable an export effect such as a baked shadow.
Are uploaded images stored?
Uploaded originals may be retained for up to 30 days for content-safety review and abuse prevention, then automatically deleted unless a compliance record must be kept. Processed cutouts and masks are returned to the browser and are not intentionally stored as a permanent gallery.
Do I need to create an account?
No account is required for the core service. Language and theme preferences are stored locally in your browser.
Why can an upload fail?
Common causes include a damaged file, unsupported encoding, a file larger than 20MB, temporary model availability, or rate limiting after too many requests. Try the original file, wait briefly, or use another supported format.
Can I use the result commercially?
You retain responsibility for the rights to the source and resulting image. BGCut does not grant rights to trademarks, people, artwork, or other content you do not own. Review the Terms and the requirements of the destination platform.
How do I request deletion or ask a privacy question?
Email privacy@bgcut.org with enough information to identify the request. Because the service does not require accounts and collects limited identity information, it may not always be possible to connect a person to a past upload.
How can I report a product or accessibility problem?
Email support@bgcut.org with the browser, device, steps that produced the problem, and a description of the expected behavior. Do not attach a sensitive image unless it is necessary and you are comfortable sending it by email.
